Repair or replace?

Tap problems we fix

  • Dripping spouts on kitchen, basin, laundry and bath taps
  • Leaks around the handle or spindle
  • Stiff, loose or noisy taps, and worn mixer cartridges
  • Shower and bath taps leaking inside the wall
  • Bulging, rusty or burst braided hoses under sinks
  • Isolation valves that won’t turn off

When a new tap is better value

  • The tap body is corroded or parts are no longer made.
  • It’s been leaking inside the wall for a while.
  • The tap body is sound? Then a washer, cartridge or O-ring is usually all it needs, and we carry the common parts in the van.

Which tap do you have?

Knowing your tap type tells us what’s likely wrong before we arrive.

Two handles, several turns

A compression tap. A drip usually means a worn washer or seat, which is a quick repair.

Two handles, a quarter turn

A ceramic disc tap. Drips come from a worn or cracked cartridge, which we replace.

One lever for hot and cold

A mixer. Drips, stiffness or temperature problems usually mean a new cartridge.

Not sure? Text a photo of the tap to 0451 001 503 and we’ll tell you what you’ve got.

Taps in rental properties

Under NSW water-efficiency rules, a landlord can only charge tenants for water usage if there are no leaking taps at the start of the tenancy and taps and shower heads meet the flow limits. We fix leaks, fit compliant aerators and shower heads, and send photos and a written report. See how we work with property managers.

Quick checks before you call

  • Find the isolation valve. Most kitchen and basin taps have small valves under the sink. Turn them clockwise to stop the water to that tap.
  • Know where your main tap is. It’s usually near the water meter at the front of the property. What to do if it won’t turn off.
  • Don’t force the handle. Over-tightening crushes the washer and damages the seat, which makes the repair bigger.
  • Check the hoses. If a braided hose under the sink is bulging, rusty or wet, turn off its valve and call us. They can burst without warning.

Tap repair questions

How much does it cost to fix a leaking tap?

A full service on a pair of wall taps is $195, including new washers, O-rings and reseating, and the parts carry a 7-year warranty. Each extra pair is $110. A business-hours call-out of $99 in our listed service areas ($125 elsewhere) applies. Prices include GST.

Why does my tap still drip when I turn it off hard?

The washer or cartridge inside is worn, so it can’t seal. Turning it harder only crushes the washer and damages the seat. A new washer or cartridge usually fixes it.

Should I repair or replace my tap?

If the tap body is in good condition, repairing it is usually cheaper. If it’s corroded, the parts aren’t available, or it’s leaking inside the wall, a new tap is often better value. We’ll give you both options honestly.

Can you fix a shower tap that leaks inside the wall?

Yes. Signs include damp walls, lifting tiles or a musty smell. We find the source, repair or replace the tap body and tell you if any wall or tile work is needed.

Can I supply my own tap?

Yes, we can fit a tap you’ve bought, as long as it’s WaterMark certified for use in Australia. We can also supply quality brands with a proper warranty.

Who pays for a dripping tap in a rental?

Usually the landlord, unless the tenant caused the damage. Tenants should report it to their agent in writing, and agents can send the work order straight to us.
