Smell gas? Turn off the gas at the meter if it’s safe, open windows, don’t use switches or flames, and leave the house. Call the Jemena gas emergency line on 131 909, then call us on 0451 001 503.

Is it a job for us?

What we do

  • Gas leak detection and repair
  • Gas cooktop and oven installation and repairs
  • Gas hot water, storage and continuous flow
  • Heater bayonet points and BBQ points
  • New gas lines and extensions for renovations
  • Gas compliance checks for rentals and strata

What we don’t do

  • Large commercial and industrial gas appliances (Type B work). We do home and small-building appliances only, and we’ll point you to the right specialist.
  • Gas supply problems in the street. That’s Jemena’s network: call 131 909.

Signs something is wrong with your gas

Any of these is worth a call. If the smell is strong, leave the house first.

Smell or sound

A rotten-egg smell near an appliance, the meter or the gas line, or a hissing sound near a pipe or fitting.

Flames and marks

Burner flames that are yellow or orange instead of a steady blue, or soot and scorch marks around a heater or cooktop.

A jump in your bill

A gas bill that has jumped without any change in how you use it can mean gas is escaping.

Cooktops, heaters, hot water and BBQ points

Gas or electric?

Deciding between gas and electric for a new cooktop or hot water system? We talk you through the running costs and installation work for each, so you choose what suits your home, not what’s easiest for us to sell.

Outdoor gas points

Tired of swapping gas bottles? A bayonet point on the deck or patio lets you plug a BBQ or outdoor heater straight into mains gas. We plan the line, install the point and test everything.

Paperwork done

In NSW, gas work must be done by a licensed gas fitter and certified when it’s finished. You get the compliance paperwork with every job.

Gas fitting questions

Do I need a licensed gas fitter to install a gas cooktop?

Yes. In NSW, gas fitting work must be done by a licensed gas fitter, who tests the installation and provides a compliance certificate. GT Plumbing holds licence 369979C, covering plumbing, gas fitting and drainage.

Can you convert my electric cooktop to gas?

Usually yes, if there’s a gas supply to the property. We’ll check the run and give you a fixed price before we start.

How do I know if I have a gas leak?

A rotten-egg smell, a hissing sound near a gas line, or a gas bill that’s higher than usual are common signs. If the smell is strong, leave the house and call Jemena on 131 909, then call us to find and fix the leak.

How much does a gas fitter cost?

Our business-hours call-out is $99 in our listed service areas ($125 elsewhere), then labour is $165 an hour, including GST. Installs such as a cooktop or bayonet point get a fixed price once we’ve checked the gas run.

How often should gas appliances be serviced?

Most manufacturers recommend a service every one to two years, so check the manual for yours. Regular servicing keeps appliances safe and running efficiently.
