Is jetting the right fix for your drain?

A drain jetter fires water at very high pressure through a nozzle inside your pipe. Jets at the back drive it up the line, and jets at the front and sides cut through the blockage and scour the walls clean. A drain eel usually just punches a hole through; jetting cleans the pipe back to its full size, so it stays clear for longer.

Jetting is the right fix for

  • Tree roots in older clay sewer pipes (see tree roots in drains)
  • Fat and grease built up in kitchen lines
  • Silt, sand and leaves in stormwater pipes and pits
  • Drains that keep blocking after eeling
  • Cleaning a line before a camera inspection or reline

When it isn’t

A broken or collapsed pipe needs repairing, not jetting. If the camera shows that, we’ll show you the footage and tell you straight.

We do pipe relining and repairs ourselves, so there’s no hand-off to another company. And if your pipe doesn’t need repairing, we won’t sell you a repair.

Why the nozzle matters

Most of the work in a jetting job is done by the nozzle. Roots, fat and silt each need a different one, and the wrong nozzle slides straight past a blockage. Alex tests nozzles on real jobs and shares the results with other plumbers on Instagram, where most of our 3,000-plus followers are plumbers.

★★★★★

“I had a major emergency blocked drain in Gladesville caused by aggressive tree root intrusion, and Alex from GT Plumbing was a lifesaver. He didn’t just clear the blockage; he provided a full CCTV drain inspection so I could actually see the damage for myself.”

★★★★★

“A previous plumber had told us that the blockage could not be resolved and had quoted an exorbitant amount for the proposed work. Alex was able to successfully diagnose and clear the blocked sewer himself, resolving the problem when we had been told it couldn’t be done. Alex potentially saved us $15,000–$20,000, with a great outcome with Sydney Water.”

Common questions

What is drain jetting?

A high-pressure water jet, fed through the pipe on a hose, that cuts through roots, fat and silt and scours the inside of the pipe clean. It clears blockages a drain eel often can’t, and it’s Alex’s specialty.

Is jetting safe for old clay pipes?

Yes, in the right hands. We match the pressure and nozzle to the pipe. If a pipe looks badly cracked or broken, we check it on camera first and tell you before we go further.

Will jetting stop my drain blocking again?

It clears the pipe back to full size, so it stays clear for longer than eeling. If roots are getting in through a cracked joint they can grow back, so we show you on camera where they’re getting in and talk you through the options.

Do you jet stormwater drains as well as sewer?

Yes. We jet sewer lines, kitchen and laundry lines, and stormwater pipes and pits.

Do you do drain jetting after hours?

Yes. We answer 24/7, including weekends and public holidays. Call 0451 001 503.

How much does drain jetting cost?

On weekdays it’s $385 an hour, or $539 an hour with the CCTV camera and footage to keep, plus call-out. You get the price before any work starts. All our rates are on our plumbing prices page.
