Leak detection questions
How can I check for a leak myself?
Turn off every tap and appliance that uses water and look at the water meter. Check it again 30 minutes later without using any water. If the reading has moved, water is escaping somewhere.
How much does leak detection cost?
Leak detection with acoustic gear and service location is $550 an hour, including GST, plus the business-hours call-out of $99 in our listed service areas ($125 elsewhere). Tracer gas isn’t included. You get the price before we start.
Will my insurance cover a leak?
That depends on your policy. We can give you a written report with notes and photos of what we found to help with your claim.
Is a shower leak a plumbing problem or a waterproofing problem?
It can be either. Water can escape from a pipe or fitting in the wall, or through failed grout, seals or waterproofing under the tiles. We find which one it is before anything is pulled apart.
Who fixes a leak in a strata building?
It depends on where the leak is coming from. We find the source and explain it, so the owner, tenant and strata manager know who needs to fix what.
