When a camera inspection is worth it
Right fix for
- Drains that keep blocking
- Tree roots near the sewer line
- Buying a home (pre-purchase check)
- Renovating or building over existing pipes
- Strata and rentals with recurring problems
- Wet patches, sinkholes or bad smells in the yard
When you may not need one
- A one-off blockage that cleared and stayed clear? Probably not worth it.
- Only a slow basin or shower? That’s usually hair and soap, not a pipe fault.
- Already have recent footage? Send it to us first. We’ll tell you honestly if it shows enough.
What the camera shows us
We watch the picture live on a screen with you, so you see exactly what we see.
Roots, cracks and breaks
Tree roots growing in through the joints, and cracked, broken or collapsed sections of pipe.
Sags and shifted joints
Joints that have moved out of line, and sagging sections where water and waste sit and build up.
Build-up and foreign objects
Fat, grease and scale narrowing the pipe, and things that should never have gone down the drain.
A locator on the camera head lets us mark the spot on the ground and tell you how deep the problem is. Any repair is aimed at the right place, instead of digging up half the yard. If a clean-out won’t do, we explain spot repairs and pipe relining, which we do ourselves.
Why look before you clear
Clearing a drain without looking is a guess. If the real cause is a broken pipe or roots, you end up paying for the same call-out again.
Buying a home?
A building inspection rarely looks inside the drains, yet a collapsed sewer under an older home can be an expensive surprise after settlement. A camera check before you buy lets you negotiate or budget with the facts. Read why a pre-purchase plumbing inspection matters.
Renovating or extending?
Before you build an extension or a new driveway, the camera shows where the sewer runs and what shape it’s in, before anything gets built over it.
Strata, insurer or agent?
You get the footage and a written summary you can share with your strata manager, insurer or property manager.
How a CCTV inspection works
- Price firstYou get the price before we start, and nothing extra is done without your OK.
- Clean the lineIf the pipe is blocked or dirty, we jet it clean so the camera can see the pipe walls.
- Camera through the lineWe feed the camera through the sewer or stormwater line and watch it live with you.
- Locate and measureWe mark the problem on the ground and tell you how deep it is.
- Straight adviceYou keep the footage. We tell you what needs doing now, what can wait, and what doesn’t need doing at all.

Honest second opinions save you money
Told your pipe has collapsed?
Some customers call us after another plumber has told them their pipe has collapsed or can’t be fixed without a big dig.
We put our own camera down the line and show you the footage. More than once, the pipe wasn’t collapsed at all, and a much smaller job fixed it.

“A previous plumber had told us that the blockage could not be resolved and had quoted an exorbitant amount for the proposed work. Alex was able to successfully diagnose and clear the blocked sewer himself, resolving the problem when we had been told it couldn’t be done. Alex potentially saved us $15,000–$20,000, with a great outcome with Sydney Water.”

“I had a major emergency blocked drain in Gladesville caused by aggressive tree root intrusion, and Alex from GT Plumbing was a lifesaver. He didn’t just clear the blockage; he provided a full CCTV drain inspection so I could actually see the damage for myself.”

“After our strata plumber cleared it twice, I found it strange that the issue persisted. I called GT Plumbing for a thorough inspection… I highly recommend GT Plumbing for the honesty and clear solution.”

“Multiple plumbers came out before Alex, but each one left us with a new excuse and no solution… Alex arrived promptly, conducted a thorough investigation, and laid out all the pricing upfront.”

If it was a one-off, probably not. If the same drain keeps blocking, an inspection is the best way to find out why, before it turns into a bigger repair.
